Singer Brymo has criticized the tradition of paying bride price, arguing that it reinforces outdated views of women as commodities rather than individuals with autonomy.
In an Instagram post on Friday, Brymo shared his thoughts, referencing a movie scene where a character says, “A woman that can be bought is not worth having.”
He explained that this idea clarified his view that the practice of paying bride price symbolizes the transfer of ownership of the bride.

A man may feel full ownership over what he pays for, but a woman is neither an object to own nor someone to control,” he added.
